Jack Jack

Jack Jack came to the rescue in April 2005. He was surrendered by his owner who could no longer care for him. He was the rescue’s first donkey and is a sweet and friendly little guy.
Jack buddied up with Chico as soon as he arrived and seems to enjoy having other donkeys around. However, he also gets along great with some of our horses.
Jack loves attention and enjoys being brushed and scratched. He would do great in a home with other donkeys or horses and with a family ...

In May we invited all of the Lil' Cowboys and Cowgirls of Waxahachie out to Ark Country Store for a pony picture day fundraiser. The event was a big success with carriage rides, adoptable horses to meet and even an appearance and free food from Chik-fil-A!

Chico

Chico was in pretty bad shape when he arrived at the rescue in December 2006 with his buddy Little Bit. Both were underweight and Chico also had skin problems and wounds. (See below for a picture of Chico when he arrived.) Their owner was going to shoot them and put their bodies in a burn pile. We got there just in time to save them from certain death! Based on their condition, we were hoping we weren’t too late for them to make a complete recovery. Since both were fairly ...

Moody

Moody is a handsome yearling gelding, probably either a breeding stock paint or a quarter horse. He arrived at the rescue last summer with a large group of horses that were rescued from a paint breeder in Iowa. Moody was orphaned when he was about four weeks old after his dam died. The breeder was going to just put him down, rather than deal with the hassle of an orphaned colt. One of the other brood mares we rescued adopted him and nursed both him and her own colt.
Moody ...

Gracie

Gracie is an 18 year old flea-bitten grey quarter horse mare who came to the rescue in September 2007 with three other horses. They were transported from a feedlot in Nevada where they were awaiting shipment to slaughter in Canada. Gracie was severely underweight as well as approximately 4 months pregnant! (The first picture below shows Gracie’s condition when she arrived.) Gracie improved greatly under the rescue’s care and gave birth the following March to a lovely black colt.
Gracie was probably severely abused before to coming to the rescue. ...

Captain

Captain is an aged sorrel gelding. He was surrendered to the rescue by his owner in April of 2008. Captain is a very sweet gelding. He loves attention and love to be petted and brushed. He had a great time when a Girl Scout troop came for a volunteer work day at the rescue in April 2010. He loved the attention as they worked to help him get rid of his thick winter coat!
Captain is having a great time living out his retirement at the rescue. He is doing great ...

Blaze

Blaze is an aged sorrel gelding who was surrendered to the rescue in July of 2008. Blaze is a retired lesson horse who has helped many people learn to ride. He loves people and attention and is still sound for light riding for children. He is very laid back and does not spook or startle. Blaze enjoys being ridden and is responsive to a rider’s aids.
Blaze would be available for adoption only to a very special home. As an older horse, he needs special attention and care in order ...

Beau

Beau is a handsome 16 year old paint gelding who came to the rescue in September 2007 with three other horses. They were transported from a feedlot in Nevada where they were awaiting shipment to slaughter in Canada.
Beau was probably severely abused before to coming to the rescue. He is untouchable and terrified of humans. A professional trainer was able to make some progress with him but determined that he will most likely never be able to trust people after the abuse he has suffered.
Beau is currently turned ...
